Location

CH-1147 Montricher

Municipality

Montricher, a pretty little village at the foot of the Jura, can be recognized by the round tower of its church. From here, you can follow one of the many signposted hiking trails, including the one leading to Mont-Tendre, the highest peak in the Swiss Jura. A village of 986 inhabitants, situated on a hill at the foot of the Jura, Montricher is away from the main roads and enjoys a certain tranquillity.
There are, of course, many walks to be enjoyed. Pedestrian tourism has marked out numerous itineraries that take hikers to Mont-Tendre, the highest peak in the Swiss Jura, where you can eat at the Buvette du Mont-Tendre, open from May to September.
Other walks take you to Rizel or Châtel. For the less sporty, a stroll through the village reveals the magnificent church, with its round tower, unique in the Canton. Originally, it was probably the chapel of the castle, which explains the thickness of the walls (1.80 m.) of the bell tower and the presence of loopholes and watch windows. The view from the church over the plain, the Alps and the lake is magnificent
